Let us pray!
In record setting numbers at the polls, Americans have elected a new president. The recent campaign has been, at times divisive over many grave issues. However, let us pray for our new President-elect Barack Obama and congratulate him as he becomes the first African-American president in the history of the United States.
Let us pray that God will give him the wisdom and compassion that will help shape a culture of life in this land and that he may turn toward policies that protect the most vulnerable among us. Let us pray that God will bless those who have been elected to all public offices, so that they will see their vocation as one of humble service for the common good. Let us pray that God will bless America with justice, freedom, faith and respect for the dignity of the human person.
When Pope Benedict XVI visited the White House last spring, his message to the American people seems an important reminder to all people of faith on this day. “As the nation faces the increasingly complex political and ethical issues of our time, I am confident that the American people will find in their religious beliefs a precious source of insight and an inspiration to pursue reasoned, responsible and respectful dialogue in the effort to build a more humane and free society.”
May Mary, Patroness of the United States, help us to heal from our differences and build a nation where the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are a reality for all men and women, especially the unborn.

Archbishop José Gomez joined with Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, KY., to take the Church's message in defense of marriage to YouTube. In their videos, in English and Spanish, both Archbishops reinforce that marriage is the exclusive union between a man and a woman.

Cardinal George voices hope for Obama Administration. Points to possible obstacles to our desired unity.
Cardinal Francis George of Chicago, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), voiced hope for the Obama Administration but pointed to possible obstacles to our desired unity, in a Nov. 12 statement at the end of the annual fall assembly of the USCCB.
"The bishops of the Catholic Church in the United States welcome this moment of historic transition and look
forward to working with President-elect Obama and the members of the new Congress for the common good of
all," he said.
He said that "the unity desired by President-elect Obama and all Americans at this moment of crisis will be impossible to achieve," if the administration's policies increase abortions.
