Day to day, we stand as witnesses to events and situations that attack at the very foundations of Christian living — issues that directly challenge the principles necessary for an ethical, moral and just life.
Issues such as homelessness, abuse, hate crimes, war, immigration and a lack of respect for life, as portrayed by abortion and the death penalty, continue to degrade society at an increasingly alarming rate.
We are not limited or called to be inactive witnesses but to be messengers of love and compassion.
Campus ministry programs, Catholic Student Associations from colleges around San Antonio and other organizations will be taking a stand together against injustice on Friday, Feb. 29 in the annual “Walk for Justice” which re-enacts the Way of the Cross.
The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Milam Park in downtown San Antonio, and will end at San Fernando Cathedral approximately at 6:30 p.m.
The purpose of the event is to awaken a sense of responsibility for, and a spirit of action against multiple social concerns.

Each Station of the Cross will have a special reflection in relation to one of the social injustices and concerns that will be addressed in the event. Injustices occur because so many times we fail to recognize Christ in those who are in need and in pain.

Today, the true needs of society go far beyond financial contributions. Let us give time, love and understanding. As Mother Teresa said, “Let us touch the dying, the poor, the lonely and the unwanted according to the graces we have received, and let us not be ashamed or slow to do the humble work.”

As we approach the time of year when we remember the single greatest act of love the world has seen, let’s unite in prayer so that we may also have the strength to sacrifice ourselves for others. We invite people of all ages to join us as we walk for justice.
