Announcement of Sister Carla Marie Lusch, SSND, as superintendent of Catholic schools
Catholic schools have served the communities of the Archdiocese of San Antonio faithfully for more than 150 years. They have introduced our children to a world of inquiry and learning, both spiritually and academically. Our Catholic schools must continue to educate our children so they can shape and change a culture that has become secular and materialistic.
Since my appointment as Archbishop of San Antonio, I have placed the 14,000 students who attend our 47 Catholic schools among my top priorities. I have seen a need for a fresh and creative approach to building a bright future for our schools. That’s why I am proud to announce my appointment of Sister Carla Marie Lusch, SSND, as new superintendent of Catholic schools effective June 1.
Sister Carla has a successful career in Catholic education and will help craft and implement an ambitious new plan for Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Catholic schools are a great treasure for our church that never lose their value. I am confident that Sister Carla will continue to be a great blessing to the archdiocese. She has accepted this new responsibility at a critical moment for our schools. We must give a more solid spiritual and educational foundation to our students.
I believe Sister Carla’s deep experience and charisma make her extremely qualified to lead our Catholic schools on their mission to prepare today’s children to tackle tomorrow’s challenges.
Sister Carla has a keen understanding of the demands facing our schools.
That knowledge will be essential to the continued success of Catholic education in our archdiocese.
