Sister Frances McMann, CDP, passes away at 91

 

    Sister Frances McMann, CDP, 91, a Sister of Divine Providence, passed away peacefully on March 28, in McCullough Hall Nursing Center at Our Lady of the Lake Convent.
    She was born in Norwich, Penn., on Nov. 13, 1912 to Frank J. and Rebecca Frances McMann, and received the baptismal name Frances.
    She entered the Congregation of Divine Providence on June 2, 1933, and became a novice on June 21, 1934, at which time she received the name     Sister M. Edmunda and later changed her name back to Sister Frances McMann. She made her first profession of vows as a Sister of Divine Providence on June 22, 1935.
    Sister Frances began her ministerial life in education at St. Joseph’s School in San Antonio in 1935. In the following years she taught at schools in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.
    Sister Frances served as secretary general for the Congregation of Divine Providence for 12 years. She also served the congregation and Our Lady of the Lake University in their finance offices.

    From 1992 through November 2002, Sister Frances McMann was a proofreader for Today’s Catholic.     She retired at an occasion marking her 10th anniversary of service as well as her 90th birthday.
    A rosary and wake service were held on March 30. At the wake her love for hosting parties and her life-long support of the San Antonio Spurs were recalled by numerous speakers.
    Her funeral Mass was held on March 31 in Annunciation Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a memorial contribution to the Sisters of Divine Providence, 515 S.W. 24th Street, San Antonio, TX 78207-4619.
